South American squad to call on Romanian/Syrian star at upcoming Major
South Ameircan squad paiN Gaming announced on Saturday that the team would be participating in the upcoming Galaxy Battlles II Major in Bulacan with Aliwi “w33” Omar as a stand-in. The move comes in the wake of some roster shuffles on the part of paiN Gaming following its acquisition of the former Midas Club Elite lineup. The team dropped Leonardo “Mandy” Viana, creating a vacancy in the lineup that w33 will be filling on a temporary basis.
w33 has most recently played for European squad MidOrFeed, which disbanded late in November after finding limited success in the region and failing to qualify for a Pro Circuit event. He has also played in the Digital Chaos/Thunderbirds/Planet Odd lineup of 2016-17, as well as a stint with Team Secret in 2015-16. Neither w33 nor paiN Gaming have given any indication that this partnership is anything more than a temporary setup, but the chance to perform on the Pro Circuit stage could be a valuable audition for w33 as he looks for a new team in 2018.
For paiN Gaming, there isn’t much in the way of information regarding how the team will address its roster issue moving forward. No announcements have been made regarding an official addition to the squad to replace Mandy, though it seems likely that the team will look to maintain its all-Brazilian lineup in the future.
paiN Gaming’s lineup for the Galaxy Battles II Major (Jan. 15-21) is as follows
- William “hFn” Medeiros (Carry)
- Aliwi “w33” Omar (Mid)(Stand-in)
- Otavio “tavo” Gabriel (Offlane)
- Danylo “KINGRD” Nascimento (Support)(Captain)
- Heitor “Duster” Pereira (Support)
