NA Dota veterans combine with up and coming talent in new roster announced via tweet.
The eyes of the Dota 2 world are currently looking towards the United States as the Captains Draft 4.0 Minor comes to a close, but news came out today that gives Dota 2 fans another reason to look at the North American region. Canadian player David “MoonMeander” Tan announced the formation of a new squad to compete within the region today, comprised of veterans of the region as well as some lesser known talents.
Handling the carry, mid, and off lane duties for the newly formed Team Animal Planet will be Ravindu “Ritsu” Kodippili and “bryle” (real name unknown), and Moonmeander. Ritsu most recently played for VGJ.Storm in the early stages of the season, and has had several runs in the NA region with teams like Cloud 9, Shazam, and Team Archon. Bryle does not perhaps have as high a profile as Ritsu, but the NA player has been active in North America for several years and made appearances on a few smaller teams in the region, and currently holds a top 10 ranking on the North American ranked leaderboard. MoonMeander is perhaps the most well known of the team’s three cores, having played in the North American and European regions with compLexity Gaming, OG, and Digital Chaos/Thunderbirds/Planet Odd.
The support duo for the new team is comprised of Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling and “Kitrak” (real name uknown). Aui_2000 is a name most Dota fans will be familiar with, as the player was part of the TI5 winning EG roster and has has runs across both Europe and North America with such squad as Cloud 9, Digital Chaos, and Team Secret. Most recently, Aui_2000 was a member of the Team NP/Cloud 9 roster that disbanded last August. Fellow support and team captain Kitrak is not as well known, but the U.S. player has made a bit of a name for himself in the North American region. He has been a part of a few runs in regional qualifiers with various NA squads and holds a ranking around teh Top 100 on the leaderboard. Most recently, Kitrak served as a stand-in for OpTic Gaming at the Midas Mode event in November.
The North American region is currently controlled by Evil Geniuses and compLexity Gaming, but behind them the hierarchy isn’t quite clear yet. Teams like OpTic Gaming, Digital Chaos, and Immortals are going through some roster shuffles in 2018, and none of them appear ready to consistently challenge the NA leaders just yet. The door is open for a new squad to potentially come into the region and make an immediate impact, and that’s exactly what Team Animal Planet will hope to do.
