NA veteran UNiVeRsE to join Fnatic

The former member of EG will replace Ohaiyo as offlaner for the SEA squad.

Big news has come to the Southeast Asian region today, as legendary offlaner Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora has been announced as the newest addition to the roster of Fnatic. The team announced today that the North American veteran would be replacing Khoo “Ohaiyo” Chong Xin on the roster in the offlane role.

A six time TI attendee and a TI winner with EG in 2015, UNiVeRsE is one of the most accomplished players in both North America and the world. Though the veteran player has spent most of his career in the North American region, UNiVeRsE is no stranger to playing in other regions. His Dota 2 career began on the multinational lineup of Online Kingdom, and more recently he had a brief stint on European squad Team Secret in 2016. Wherever UNiVeRsE has gone he has made his team better, and Fnatic are hoping that trend continues as the NA player comes to Southeast Asia.

On the other side of the roster change, Ohaiyo now stands as a free agent within the Southeast Asian region. The five time TI participant is also a veteran player, and has put together runs in both Southeast Asia and China with notable teams such as Orange Esports, Titan, EHOME, and of course Fnatic. With a proven track record, experience on the international stage and the Pro Circuit, and 67.5 Qualifying Points on the season, Ohaiyo is an incredibly valuable free agent that is not likely to remain on the sidelines for long. Where he ends up is a mystery for now, but it seems likely that the veteran player will remain in the Southeast Asian region.

For Fnatic, the move bolsters what is already a fairly strong and experienced roster. Adding UNiVeRsE after the recent acquisition of Abed “Abed” Yusop gives the team another stable and reliable player to anchor the lineup. With the new roster lock here, the team will be able to move forward with its new lineup without risking any Qualifying Points penalties like the one they received at the Dota Summit 8 Minor. With this new roster, Fnatic becomes one of the most feared teams in the region, and a potential threat to catch up to Southeast Asian leader Mineski. We’ll get the chance to see the lineup for Fnatic relatively soon as well, as Fnatic are set to compete in the ESL One Genting Minor just ten days from now.

The new lineup of Fnatic following the addition of UNiVeRsE:

  • Jacky :”EternaLEnVy” Mao (Carry)(Captain)
  • Abed “Abed” Yusop (Mid)
  • Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora (Offlane)
  • Djardel “DJ” Mampusti (Support)
  • Johan “pieliedie” Åström (Support)
