The former members of VGJ.Storm have decided to carry on together, reclaiming their former team name.
Yesterday, the North American Dota 2 scene received the news that the Chinese organization VGJ had dropped its NA squad, bringing an end to the VGJ.Storm team. However, the players themselves decided that they did not want to walk away from the competitive scene, and have announced today that they will continue to play together under their previous team banner of “is GG”. In order to round out the lineup, Khanh “KvH” Huynh will be coming on as the team’s midlaner. Unfortunately, the announcement of the team’s reformation comes with a bit of bad news with regards to its status on the Pro Circuit. Since the four former members of VGJ.Storm registered with their now former team, they are locked in to that squad, which means that any Qualifying Points that those players earn will be subject to a penalty.
Points penalty aside, the reformation of is GG keeps a group of talented players within the active scene in the North American region, which is particularly notable considered the fact that many teams have been created or changed within the past few months in an attempt to gain a leg up in the regional hierarchy. Evil Geniuses still sits as the highest ranked NA team by a wide margin, but compLexity Gaming appears to have hit a rough patch, and squads like Immortals, OpTic Gaming, and Iceberg Esports are all taking steps towards securing more favorable positions. It will be interesting to see if is GG can manage to throw its hat in the ring and continue to compete in the region.
The roster of the reconstituted is GG:
- Brian “BananaSlamJamma” Canavan (Carry)
- Khanh “KvH” Huynh (Mid)
- Jaron “monkeys-forever” Clinton (Offlane)
- Francis “FrancisLee” Lee (Support)
- Stanley “Stan King” Yang (Support)
