Team Spirit announces departure of iLTW

The Russian midlaner is leaving the CIS organization just a few days after the roster lock.

The roster shuffles continue as the Pro Circuit gears up for a long stretch run through the rest of the season as the final roster lock period of the 2017-2018 campaign has come to an end. Unfortunately, the end of the official roster lock period didn’t bring an end to the roster changes, as CIS organization Team Spirit announced a change. Midlaner Igor “iLTW” Filatov has left the team, with the player and the organization mutually agreeing to part ways after apparently being unable to create the right conditions to retain him on the roster.

For iLTW, the move leaves him a free agent within the CIS scene, but with the official roster lock period having come to an end, his prospects of joining a new team may not be as strong as they would have been just a few days ago. There will still be plenty of teams whose chances of earning Qualifying Points will be so minimal that they will be willing to ignore the points penalty and add iLTW to their lineup, but his chances of joining an established contender in the region are slim at this stage. Either way, he has picked up some valuable experience this season with Team Spirit, and could contribute immediately and potentially make the difference for a team trying to fight its way through Open or Closed Regional Qualifiers.

For Team Spirit, the loss of iLTW comes at a bit of an inopportune time, as the team was already dealing with the temporary loss of another of its players. The team’s offlaner, Alexander “DkPhobos” Kucheria, is still scheduled to be absent from the roster through the end of February due to health concerns. In the meantime, the team has been playing with Rodion “MYSmoon” Fomkin as a stand-in, but the team will have to add a second stand-in player to that mix in order to find a long term replacement for iLTW. The loss of one of its registered players will also incur a Qualifying Points penalty for Team Spirit, although at this stage the team will be focusing more on filling its roster vacancy than on earning any Qualifying Points. The roster changes also mean that Team Spirit will be forced to go through Open Qualifiers in order to make it to the CIS Qualifier for TI8, paving a particularly difficult path for the squad moving forward.

The roster of Team Spirit following the departure of iLTW:

  • Ilya “Illidan” Pivcaev (Carry)
  • Alexander “DkPhobos” Kucheria (Offlane)
  • Malthe “Biver” Winther (Support)
  • Artsiom “fng” Barshak (Support) (Captain)
