The North American offlaner leaves the recently reformed squad just days after the roster lock.
The roster lock period may have come to an end, but the roster shuffles haven’t concluded just yet. North American squad is GG recently announced the reformation of its roster following the disbanding of the VGJ.Storm lineup. However, within days of that news, the team announced that offlaner Jaron “monkeys-forever” Clinton had left the team for unspecified reasons.
Monkeys-forever had joined the squad back at the beginning of January alongside Brian “BananaSlamJamma” Canavan back when the lineup was playing under the VGJ.Storm banner. When the organization dropped its roster, monkeys-forever remained with the team’s former players as part of the reconstituted is GG lineup. His departure from the squad so soon after the roster lock period is particularly strange, but either way it makes the North American offlaner a free agent within the region. Unfortunately, the ending of the roster lock period means that any team that opts to pick him up would not only suffer a penalty to any Qualifying Points earnings, but would also be ineligible for a direct invitation to TI8 or the TI8 Regional Qualifiers.
The loss of monkeys-forever puts is GG into a bit of a tougher position within the North American region. In the short term, the team is going to need to secure itself a new fifth player to round out the lineup, and will likely be forced to utilize one or more stand-in players in regional qualifiers until a permanent solution can be decided upon. In the long term, the team is going to suffer a penalty to any Qualifying Points that it may earn throughout the rest of the season. Should the team keep the rest of its roster intact and only play with a single stand-in, then its four registered players would only receive 75% of the usual point value. At the current time, the squad doesn’t pose much of a threat to earn Qualifying Points anyway, so the penalty may not prove to be a considerable detriment. However, the ineligibility for a direct invite to the TI8 North America Qualifier could be a significant concern for the squad, as it will be forced to make a dangerous and grueling run through the Open Qualifiers. Is GG’s TI8 hopes may not have been completely dashed by this move, but the North American squad will certainly have its work cut out for it moving forward.
The roster of is GG following the departure of monkeys-forever:
- Brian “BananaSlamJamma” Canavan (Carry)
- Khanh “KvH” Huynh (Mid)
- Francis “FrancisLee” Lee (Support)
- Stanley “Stan King” Yang (Support) (Captain)
