The European squad has announced that the Ukranian carry will no longer be a part of the roster.
While the Dota 2 world has its eyes fixed on Jakarta with the GESC: Indonesia Minor ongoing, the scene as a whole continues to be rocked and shifted by mid-season roster changes. This time, its European squad OG who is making a change after keeping its roster intact for all of the season to this point. The squad has announced that Roman “Resolut1on” Fominok will be removed from the roster, with the team’s coach, Sébastien “7ckngMad” Debs, serving as a temporary stand-in until a new player is added.
This recent roster move brings to an end what has been a tenure of about six months for Resolut1on with OG, as the carry player originally joined the team back in September of 2017 after his noteworthy performance as a stand-in at TI7 with Team Empire. At this point in his career, he is a veteran of both the CIS and European scenes with experience at the highest level of professional Dota 2, including his 2nd place run with Digital Chaos at TI6. With all that being said, it shouldn’t take long for Resolut1on to find another squad to compete with for the remainder of the season given his talent and history of success. The question will be what team will take the risk of Open Qualifiers to add him and whether that team will be in Europe of if Resolut1on will return to the CIS region.
On the topic of Open Qualifiers, OG has now put itself into a bit of a precarious situation. The team has announced that it will be playing with 7ckingMad as a stand-in for its more immediate appearances, but that doesn’t appear to be a long-term solution. The problem is that any new player that the team brings in will make the European squad ineligible for an invite to either TI8 or the TI8 regional qualifiers. Considering that the team currently sits in the 10th place position in the Pro Circuit standings, this was a rather drastic move for the team, but one that it felt it needed to make all the same. OG appeared to be back on the right track around the turn of the year, with the team notching three straight Top 4 finishes at Pro Circuit events. In 2018, the team had won five straight regional qualifiers, and looked like one of the top squads in Europe. Unfortunately, back to back lackluster performances at the ESL One Katowice Major and The Bucharest Major sapped the team’s momentum away, and may have contributed to it feeling the need to make a change. With this news, a major player in the race for TI8 invites could be removed from the field. Hopefully, OG’s upcoming roster addition will be able to help the team find the results it’s looking for and prepare the European squad for a potential run through the Open Qualifiers.
