The Russian organization has announced the departure of 3 of its members
More roster new has come out of the European region today, as Double Dimension has announced that it has released three members of its lineup. Mid-laner Steve “Xcalibur” Ye, off-laner Andrey “Mag” Chipenko, and support player Milan “MiLAN” Kozomara have all left the team after just a little over a month with the Russian organization. The three players originally came under the Double Dimension banner when the organization signed the roster of Planet Dog back in February. The two other members of that Planet Dog roster, Dmitry “Ditya Ra” Minenkov and Alexei “j4” Lipai, remain a part of the Double Dimension lineup.
For Double Dimension the signing of the Planet Dog roster had shifted it into new territory, as the team’s mostly European roster forced the organization to participate in the European region in terms of Pro Circuit qualifiers. The results for the team in that region where not necessarily poor, but neither were they particularly encouraging. Double Dimension’s most recent lineup competed in two regional qualifiers, earning a 5th-6th finish in one while finishing 3rd in the other. The roster didn’t appear to be finding the results that the organization was looking for, so it decided that a change was in order. We know now that the first step of that change was the removal of three of the team’s players, but the next step is uncertain as of now. The organization stated that they were not ready to announce the team’s new roster yet, raising the question of whether the team will look to pick up more European players and remain in that region, or if it will search for more local players to make a return to its more traditional CIS home. Either way, the team will hopefully add players that can help the squad become a stronger contender regardless of what region it ends up in.
For the removed players, the life of free agency is on the immediate horizon. All three of the released players have significant experience on the professional scene and have seen action across multiple regions in their careers. Each of the three players have also participated in at least one Pro Circuit event this season, giving them added value for teams looking to add a veteran player to its roster. At this stage in the season, there are a multitude of squads on the Pro Circuit that sit far enough away from the top of their regional hierarchy to be willing to break the roster lock and add one or more of these players. There should be opportunities available for Xcalubur, Mag, and MiLAN to join a new squad and continue competing, but at this stage exactly where these three end up is anyone’s guess.
