The European squad announces its players will be parting ways months before the TI8 Qualifiers.
With the season beginning to wind down, it seems as though the flow of roster news would be slowing down as well, but the European region still had at least one more change in store. European squad Going in announced today that its players would be parting ways and the roster would officially be disbanding. The change comes just a little under two months after the team left the PENTA Sports organization, and just three weeks after replacing Aliwi “w33” Omar with Steve “Excalibur” Ye after the former’s departure. The team had earned one Pro Circuit appearance at the ESL One Genting Minor under the PENTA Sports banner at the beginning of the year, and had finished in the Top 4 in two of its three qualifier runs since leaving the organization. The team felt that those results were as far as the team would be able to go together, leading to the disbanding of the roster.
The move drops all five of the team’s former players into positions as free agents with just a month or so remaining in the Pro Circuit season. At this stage it seems risky for a team to pick up any new players with the TI8 Qualifier so close, but there are likely to still be Open Qualifier squads looking for players with Pro Circuit experience. Regardless of whether the team’s former players join new squads in time for the qualifiers, the move takes Going in out of the field for the TI8 Europe Open Qualifier and could potentially open a window for another squad to make a run at a spot in the main regional qualifier.
The former roster of Going In prior to the disband:
- Oliver “oliver” Lepko (Carry)
- Steve “Excalibur” Ye (Mid)
- Joni “Buugi” Fält (Offlane)
- Dino “dnz” Šavuk (Support)
- Roman “rmN-” Paley (Support) (Captain)
