The CIS organization joins the Dota 2 world with the signing of the CoM18Anji lineup.
The Dota 2 world sees a new face join the ranks of its teams late in the season, as ESPADA Esports announced the signing of a roster to compete in the CIS region. Though the organization itself is new to the Dota 2 scene, it wades into the waters of competitive Dota with the backing of a familiar face. ESPADA Esports has announced that it will be partnering with fellow CIS organization Team Spirit, which has claimed that it will be focusing on “development of unique software for the needs of professional teams in different disciplines”. While the exact details of the partnership are not fully known, the presence and support of a more established organization is an advantage that ESPADA Esports hopes will help it find success.
That success will depend upon the performance of the newly signed ESPADA Esports roster, formerly known as CoM18Anji. The CIS squad was formed in the wake of the latest roster shuffle in the region, and features players from squads such as Team Empire, Effect, and Spartak Esports. Since the squad’s formation, it has had one notable run in Pro Circuit qualifiers, with the team having claimed one of the top spots in the ESL One Birmingham CIS Open Qualifier to reach the main regional qualifier for the Major. The team defeated Vega Squadron in that regional qualifier, but lost 1-2 to its new partner Team Spirit to end its chance at a Pro Circuit debut. With the teams locked in for all of the remaining Pro Circuit events on the schedule, we won’t have a chance to see ESPADA Esports in action until this summer, when the team will be one of many that will attempt to brave the fires of the TI8 Open Qualifiers.
