1 Day after dropping 2 of its players, the North American organization reveals its new lineup.
North American squad Evil Geniuses made waves yesterday with the announcement that 2 of its players would be leaving the organization. Clinton “Fear” Loomis and Rasmus “MiSeRy” Filipsen were both dropped from the team’s roster in the wake of its 10th-12th place finish at the ESL One Birmingham Major and a string of less than ideal performances on the Pro Circuit stage. In their place, the team has announced the addition of 2 members of the OG roster, as Gustav “s4” Magnusson and Tal “Fly” Aizik officially join the team’s lineup.
S4 makes his first trip to the North American region after a long and storied career in Europe. The TI3 Champion will be taking over the offlane role from Syed Sumail “SumaiL” Hassan, who will be returning to the mid role that he previously held with EG. As one of the most experienced and successful players in the Dota 2 scene, s4 will hopefully bring a stabilizing presence to the squad in addition to serving as a steady and reliable contributor in game.
Unlike his teammate, Fly is no stranger to the North American scene, having previously played for compLexity Gaming back in 2015. Fly will be taking up his usual support position within the new EG roster, and will also serve as the team’s new captain with the departure of MiSeRy. The move reunites Fly with former teammate Crit-, reforming the support duo that won 2 Major Championships under the OG banner back in 2015 and 2016. The team is likely hoping that Fly’s veteran experience and drafting prowess will help bring EG out of its recent downward spiral in terms of its performance.
For EG, the roster changes come just a few days before the North American squad is set to participate in the China Dota 2 Supermajor in Shanghai. The changes to the team’s lineup have forfeited its invite eligibility on the Pro Circuit, which means that the squad is no longer in a position where it necessarily has to be concerned with earning a Top 4 finish and Qualifying Points. That being said, the team will surely be looking to put together a strong performance in its final appearance on the Pro Circuit stage to show the rest of the Dota 2 world the potential strength of its new roster. While the acquisition of Fly and s4 make EG’s lineup complete for the China Dota 2 Supermajor, the same cannot be said for their former team, OG. With the departure of 2 of the team’s player and the squad still playing with its coach as a long term stand-in, the team has opted to withdraw from the Supermajor in favor of rebuilding its roster for the TI8 Europe Open Qualifiers.
