The Southeast Asian organization appears to be rebuilding around SEA talent heading into the 2018-2019 season.
In a move that pretty much everyone had already suspected was coming, Fnatic officially announced that a number of its roster members will be leaving the organization prior to the Pro Circuit roster registration deadline. When it was announced that Saahil “UNiVeRsE” Arora was set to join the roster of ex-VGJ.Storm, it was assumed that his departure from Fnatic was soon to be announced, and that he would not be the only one leaving the organization this offseason. Today, Fnatic has announced that in addition to UNiVeRsE leaving the team, carry player Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Mao, support and captain Johan “pieliedie” Åström, and coach Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling will also be leaving the team. With these moves, the team is left with just 2 players on its roster, and appear to be set to rebuild around a Southeast Asian lineup this season.
Though they have only just been officially released from Fnatic, some of its now former players already appear to have plans lined up for the 2018-2019 Pro Circuit season. As previously mentioned, UNiVeRsE is set to join the former VGJ.Storm lineup as a member of whatever organization it ends up signing with, while Aui_2000 is reportedly set to hold the coaching role with said team. Meanwhile, EternaLEnVy has revealed that he has a new team completed that has not yet been officially announced. As for pieliedie, there has been no word as to where he will end up this season, in terms of both his team and what region he will play in. At the moment, the chances of him remaining in the Southeast Asian region seem relatively small, and a return to either Europe or North America appears to be the most likely scenario to occur moving forward. As of right now, we don’t know much, but it seems unlikely that a talented, veteran player lie pieliedie remains on the free agent market for long.
