Following a 7th-8th place finish at TI8, the North American organization is releasing its lineup to pursue other opportunities.
In a move that had been widely speculated and rumored to be in the works in the Dota 2 scene, OpTic Gaming announced today that it will be parting ways with its Dota 2 roster in the wake of a 7th-8th place run at TI8. All 5 members of the team’s roster have officially been released into free agency, and the organization stands without a lineup with just 10 days remaining before the roster registration deadline. Though the team’s announcement made no mention of its future plans, there has been speculation for some time now that OpTic Gaming may already have another squad lined up to sign. Due to the Valve rules for the upcoming 2018-2019 season, the roster of VGJ.Storm has left its orgnaization, and there have been rumors suggesting that that squad could be on the OpTic Gaming organization’s radar. However, until there is any sort of confirmation from either side, those rumors remain simply rumors at this point, and OpTic Gaming appears to be without a Dota 2 team for the time being.
As for the players that have left OpTic Gaming, their futures appear to be going in somewhat different directions. Per Anders Olsson “Pajkatt” Lille, Quinn “CC&C” Callahan, and Ludwig “zai” Wåhlberg all stand as free agents now, and will presumably be looking for new teams before the September 15 deadline. Rumors have already begun making the rounds for all 3 players as to where they may end up or whether 1 or more of them will be looking to form their own squad for the upcoming season. While nothing has been officially announced or confirmed at this point, expect the plans of some or all of those free agents to be revealed in the coming days now that they have been officially released from OpTic Gaming. The final 2 former members of OpTic Gaming, Neta “33” Shapira and Peter “ppd” Dager, appear to already have their next destination set. According to a tweet from ppd, he and 33 have already set up a new roster to compete on the Pro Circuit this season. The duo will be joined by Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard and Adrian “Fata” Trinks of Team Secret, along with former BlinkPool support Martin “Saksa” Sazdov. Of course, this lineup is technically not official just yet, as Ace and Fata have yet to be formally released from the Team Secret lineup, but if ppd’s tweet is true then an announcement should be forthcoming in the near future. As of right now, this new roster does not have any organization tied to it, and ppd’s tweet states that the squad is looking to play in either North American or Europe this season.
