The CIS organization is benching 2 of its players just 2 weeks before The Bucharest Minor.
The winter holidays have arrived in the Dota 2 world, and it appears that we are all receiving something of a gift in the form of some roster changes in the CIS region. Gambit Esports has recent announced that it will be making some changes to its lineup before the end of the 2018 section of the season, giving the team a new look just a couple of week ahead of its scheduled appearance at The Bucharest Minor on January 9. The team’s Support duo of Rinat “KingR” Abdullin and Ivan “VANSKOR” Skorokhod have been officially shifted into roles as substitutes on the Gambit Esports roster. In their place, the organization announced that a new duo of players would be joining the team on loan from their previous squads, with Alexander “Immersion” Hmelevskoy of Espada and Artiom “fng” Barshack of Team Spirit being introduced as the newest members of Gambit Esports.
Immersion comes to the team as a relative newcomer to the professional scene, with his first stint at the pro level coming earlier this year with the somewhat short-lived lineup of CoM18Anji. While his level of professional experience is not extensive, he has managed to perform admirably for Espada in the Position 4 Support role, and can hopefully introduce a degree of aggression and play making ability to the new Gambit Esports lineup.
Fng brings a fair bit more experience to the table for Gambit Esports, as the team’s new captain has an impressive professional career dating back to 2013 with stints on major CIS organizations like Na’Vi and Virtus.pro. He has seen action at the highest levels in the Dota 2 world, having attended 4 Majors in addition to earning a 5th-6th place finish at TI5 as a member of VP. As the captain of Team Spirit, fng has been a significant part of the team’s recent surge within the regional hierarchy, and will now look to utilize his talents and veteran experience to help Gambit Esports maintain its relatively favorable position within the CIS region.
Hopefully, these changes will help Gambit Esports bolster what has been a solid, but somewhat inconsistent performance on the international level so far this season, as the team currently sits with a 16-16 overall record against squads outside of the CIS region. Of course, the team’s roster moves will come at a cost for the squad, as Gambit Esports will ostensibly be surrendering 40% of its Pro Circuit Point total due to the replacement of 2 of its registered players. Should that penalty be made official, Gambit Esports would drop to 45 Pro Circuit Points, and would shift into 18th in the Pro Circuit Rankings. The new Gambit Esports lineup will be in action beginning December 27 in WePlay! Dota 2 Winter Madness, and will be heading to Bucharest at the start of January to compete in The Bucharest Minor.
