The organization completes its new roster by bringing in a veteran presence
When Royal Never Give Up successfully qualified for the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor, is was assumed that some changes were on the way for the Chinese squad. For nearly 2 months, the team had been playing with a roster that differed from the one that the organization had registered for the Pro Circuit. With the team now officially headed back to the Pro Circuit stage in March, the squad’s current roster and its registered one had to come back into alignment. We saw the first step in that alignment just hours after the team’s qualifier run, as Royal Never Give Up added Offlaner Su “Flyby” Lei to its roster in place of Sun “Srf” Runfa. That move still left the team with an unregistered player on its roster though, as Cheng “Mad” Han was still playing Support for the team in the wake of its successful qualifier performance. Today, the team has fully updated its roster for the foreseeable future, with Mad being shifted into a role as a substitute, while the organization has introduced veteran player Zhang “LaNm” Zhicheng as the newest member of its roster.
With this move, Royal Never Give Up has officially dropped former Support player Xue “September” Zhichuan from its registered roster, with September presumably set to continue his stint with Royal, the youth/development squad of RNG. The roster change now also leaves Royal Never Give Up with a pair of substitute players, as both Mad and Midlaner Tang “xy” Weijie still appear to be listed as members of the team, though with an inactive status. Considering the fact that Srf, September, and xy have all been seen playing with Royal over the past few months, it wouldn’t be a massive leap in logic to assume that Mad will more than likely see some time with the organization’s secondary squad as well.
As for Royal Never Give Up, the hope will be that this newly altered lineup will have the strength and experience to break through on the Pro Circuit stage in Kiev, as the team is set to make its second appearance this season at a Minor. However, the team will come into that event with a slightly smaller Pro Circuit point total, as the removal of another player from its registered roster will incur a reduction in the team’s points. With both Srf and September removed from the squad’s registered lineup, Royal Never Give Up will see its point total reduced from 43.2 to just 27.648 and will drop from 24th in the Pro Circuit Rankings to 25th. However, with the team’s new roster now fully registered, Royal Never Give Up is set to receive the full Pro Circuit point earnings from its upcoming appearance at the StarLadder ImbaTV Dota 2 Minor, which is set to begin on March 7.
