The Southeast Asian squad announced the return of one of its original members as it complete a new roster for the second half of the Pro Circuit season.
On March 7, Carry Trịnh “458” Văn Thọ left the all-Vietnamese squad 496 Gaming to become a free agent. At the time, it was assumed by many that the reason for 458’s departure was due to him receiving an offer from a more prominent organization, and today those assumptions appear to have been correct. 458 will be joining the roster of Tigers as its Carry and fifth member.
For 458, this will mark his second stint playing under the Tigers name, as the Vietnamese player was a member of the original TNC Tigers squad that formed 1 year ago in March in 2018. With that original squad, 458 put together a series of solid performances within the Southeast Asian region, including a 3rd place run in the TI8 Southeast Asia Qualifier. Since then, 458 has spent his time with the all-Vietnamese squad 596 Gaming in an attempt to foster a stronger Dota 2 scene within his home country. Outside of smaller regional event and a handful of qualifiers though, the squad had not been able to make a particularly large impact on the regional scene during 458’s tenure.
As for Tigers itself, the hope is that this latest move will finally get the team back on track and put it in a position to compete within the Southeast Asian region. The team has seen a trio of players leave its roster since the start of 2019, with Muhammad “inYourdreaM” Rizky, Lai “Ahjit” Jay Son, and Chai “Mushi” Yee Fung all finding opportunities elsewhere in the last 3 months. The revolving door of roster additions and departures could not have been easy on the team’s lineup, but with said lineup complete once again, we will see if Tigers can put its past issues behind it and return to prominence within the Southeast Asian region. The team is already in action with its new roster, as Tigers is currently participating in the BTS Spring Cup: Southeast Asia.
