Na’Vi claim victory in the TI9 CIS Qualifier

The Winner of the original TI is headed for Shanghai as Na’Vi takes down its regional rivals to punch its ticket to TI9

The second regional qualifier for TI9 has officially come to a close, and it appears that a familiar face is headed for Shanghai for the biggest event in the Dota 2 world. 8 squads looked to claim the lone CIS slot at the event, but in the end it was Na’Vi that was able to emerge victorious to become the region’s second representative on the TI stage. The team put together a 12-7 overall record in this qualifier, capping off its run with a 3-0 victory over Winstrike Team in the Grand Finals that locked its place in the field for TI9.

TI9 will be the seventh TI appearance for the organization, with the squad having finished 1st at TI1 in 2011 before claiming back to back 2nd place finishes at TI2 and TI3. Since then though, the squad’s fortunes on the Dota 2 world’s biggest stage have been significantly more subdued, with Na’Vi failing to finish any higher than the 7th-8th place position in each of its last 3 TI appearances. Of course, most of the current Na’Vi lineup wasn’t even around during the team’s most recent TI appearance though, as Support and Team Captain SoNNeikO is the only remaining member of Na’Vi’s TI6 roster to remain with the organization, and will be making his third TI appearance in Shanghai. As for the rest of the Na’Vi roster, TI9 will serve as the TI debut for them, as Crystallize, MagicaL, Blizzy, and Zayac will get their first taste of action on the Dota 2 world’s biggest and most prestigious stage.

The second round of TI9 regional qualifier is set to begin July 11, with the commencement of the China, Europe, and North America Qualifiers. TI9 itself is set to begin with the start of the event’s Group Stage just over 1 month from now on August 15.
