The North American squad will carry the Newbee banner in Shanghai with what appears to be a temporary sponsorship
The North American scene got a bit of a shock just a few days ago, as its was announced that the Forward Gaming organization was ceasing operations and had dropped its Dota 2 roster just weeks before the start of TI9. In the aftermath of that move, it was announced that the team would continue to play together and would be making its way to Shanghai for TI9, taking on the name of ex-Forward Gaming. As soon as the announcement has been made, many in the Dota 2 world began speculating on which organization would swoop in to sign the North American squad, with the opportunity to sponsor a TI-bound squad too valuable to pass up. Today, we know the identity of the organization that will be sponsoring the NA team in its TI9, and it certainly wasn’t the one many were expecting. Chinese organization Newbee has announced that it will be sponsoring the ex-Forward Gaming roster for the duration of its TI9 run.
From what we currently know, it would appear that this partnership is only temporary, as Newbee’s announcement states that the roster will still be representing North America but will play under the Newbee name in Shanghai. Beyond that, the team’s future is unclear, with the squad’s prospects heading into next season potentially dependent upon its performance at TI9 itself. For now though, the roster will have the backing of a well known organization with a history of TI success as it prepares to take the TI stage in Shanghai.
Newbee’s TI9 roster:

Quinn “CC&C” Callahan (Mid)

Arif “MSS” Anwar (Support)
Johan “pieliedie” Åström (Support, Captain)
Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling (Coach)
Jack “KBBQ” Chen (Manager)
