Afoninje, boolk to leave Gambit Esports roster

The CIS squad is preempting the post-TI roster shuffle with some changes to its lineup

The International 2019 is just a few days away now, but the Dota 2 world has gotten a bit of interesting news to digest even before the festivities get underway in Shanghai. CIS organization Gambit Esports has announced that it is making some changes to its roster, with the squad now appearing to be locked into a somewhat altered look for the 2019-2020 season. Midlaner Andrey “Afoninje” Afonin will be leaving the Gambit Esports roster, while Coach Anatoly “boolk” Ivanov is transferring to the organization to serve as a second coach for the squad.

Afoninje’s departure from the Gambit Esports roster brings to an end a 10 month run with the organization, with the Midlaner having joined the roster back in October when the organization signed the roster of ferzee. As a member of the team, Afoninje helped turn Gambit Esports into a relatively consistent power within the CIS region with 14 Top 4 finishes in regional appearances across the 2018-2019 season. The team’s success wasn’t simply limited to the home front though, as Afoninje also played a large role in the squad’s efforts on the international level, helping Gambit Esports attend 2 Majors and 2 Minors this season while earning 4 Top 4 finishes in 7 total international appearances. Between his impressive performances across the recent Pro Circuit season and his status as a relatively experienced player (5 years as a professional player), Afoninje is projected to be one of the more valuable free agents heading into the offseason, and should attract a fair bit of attention from squads in the CIS region.

Vasily “AfterLife” Shishkin (Offlane)
Alexander “Immersion” Hmelevskoy (Support)

Ivan “4SV” Karpov (Manager)
